The town’s streets of Tudor and Georgian buildings with narrow alleys between make this a fascinating base for the rides. These explore the banks of the Rivers Severn and Avon, the picturesque villages that encircle the foot of Bredon Hill and the ancient Saxon borough of Winchcombe with the splendours of Sudeley Castle and the Cotswold escarpment. Attractions: Ashleworth & Bredon Tithe Barns, Beckford Silk Printing, Bredon & Conderton Potteries, GWR Steam Railway and Odda’s Chapel. This break involves 3 circular rides allowing an exploration of Cheltenham and the surrounding area.
Ride 1 - Ride through the Severn Vale to the historic town of Tewkesbury at the confluence of the Rivers Severn and Avon. Dominated by the abbey, the streets are notable for the wonderful mix of architectural styles and narrow alleys that lead off them. On re-entering Cheltenham via a number of beautiful villages you pass Pittville Pump Rooms, built in 1825, and return to your hotel to relax.
Ride 2 - Dare you stop in one of England's most haunted villages as you pedal your way towards The Cotswold Scarp? From there cycle to the villages of Stanton and Stanway where you will find Stanway House, one of the most romantic manors in the country. From Stanway, wind your way towards Winchcombe where Sudeley Castle remains as a reminder of past glory.
Ride 3 - The ride takes you to see the Iron Age Fort at Crickley Hill, one of the major archaeological sites in the country. The route continues through Withington with its picturesque riverside pub and then on to Chedworth Roman Villa. This is the beautiful setting for the best exposed remains of a Roman country house in Britain.
