Lake Walking in the Salzkammergut
This tour allows you to explore the beauty of the Salzkammergut area and enjoy the spectacular sights. The tour includes visits to two lakes and a number of beautiful towns and villages along the way. This tour includes bed & breakfast accommodation, a tour pack (including colour coded route directions and a map), luggage transfers and emergency telephone assistance. 8 days, 7 nights
Day 1 - Arrive at Abersee or Wolfgangsee.
Day 2 - Circular route visiting St Wolfgang and St Gilgen. Take a ferry to St Wolfgang. Enjoy beautiful views of the lake as you walk along a trail to the Falkenstein Rock Wall. An idyllic path continues around the lake to the village of Mozart - St Gilgen. You then return by ferry.
Day 3 - Again take the ferry to St Wolfgang before proceeding along the Sattelweg (Saddle walk) to Lake Schwarzensee where you will be able to stop at the lake cabin and taste local delicacies courtesy of Madame Lore. You then descend into the valley via Wirer Gorge. Continue around Bürglstein to the lake promenade in Srobl. The day will finish with a short bus journey to Bad Ischl - the ancient Imperial summer residence.
Day 4 - A day of rest for you to enjoy the sights and activities available in Bad Ischl including ‘Kaiservilla’, Emperor Franz Josef’s summer residence, Café Zauner with its famous delicacies and the Thermal Spa.
Day 5 - Bad Ischi to Bad Goisern. Walk along the promenade into
Kaltenbachau, a place of leisure for the Imperial household including horse racing, picnics or rendezvous. Salt has always been an important source of income in Salzkammergut and the oldest Brine pipeline in the world leads from Hallstatt’s salt mine to the salt works in Bad Ischi. From Bad Ischi you follow the Brine Pipeline Trail to Bad Goisern, gateway to Hallstatt, a Unesco world heritage site.
Day 6 - Circular route around Hallstatt. Continue along the brine pipeline trail to the salt mountain in Hallstatt. The walk is gently sloping and offers
beautiful views of the lake and Dachstein Massif – the area’s highest
mountain. On arrival at Hallstatt, make a visit to the salt mine which dates back to Celtic times, enjoy the views from the top of Rudolf’s tower and visit the excavation sites. The ferry will then take you back across the lake to Bad Goisern.
Day 7 - Bad Goisern to Abersee or Wolfgangsee. Take a train to Bad Ischl before walking along Empress Elisabeth Walk to tiny Lake Nuseensee, before continuing on the River Ischl back to Lake Wolfgangsee. Wander along the lake through Blinklingmoos Nature Reserve to Abersee.
Day 8 - Depart.
